How to Use This Calculator
The calculator has two modes. In ROI Calculator mode, enter what you paid, what you expect to sell for, and all costs. It shows net profit, ROI, break-even, and max buy price simultaneously.
In Should I Buy This Card? mode, enter your target sale price and desired profit. The calculator returns the maximum price you should pay: your ceiling when bidding, negotiating, or scanning listings.
The Shipping Preset dropdown fills your seller cost automatically based on common USPS methods. Override it manually anytime. Shipping charged to buyer and your actual cost are tracked separately because they affect your bottom line differently.
Marketplace Fees 2026
Platform fees are the most commonly underestimated cost in card flipping. They apply to the full sale price including shipping in most cases.
| Platform | Rate | Notes |
| eBay Standard | ~13.25% | Final value fee on sale + shipping |
| eBay Store | ~12.35% | Lower rate with store subscription |
| eBay $1,000+ Promo | ~6.6% | 50% FVF discount on qualifying cards |
| Fanatics Collect | 6–15% | Varies by card type and sale tier |
| Local / Cash | 0% | No fee, often lower sale price |
| Promoted Listing | +2–15% | Add-on cost above standard FVF |
PSA Grading Costs 2026
PSA raised prices across five tiers effective February 10, 2026. Express, Super Express, and Walk-Through were unchanged. Turnaround times extended by 5 business days on Value Plus, Value Max, and Regular. TCG Bulk was consolidated into Value Bulk.
| Service Level | Price | Turnaround | Max Value |
| Value Bulk (Members, 20+ min) | $24.99 | ~95 bus. days | $500 |
| Value | $49.99 | ~65 bus. days | $1,500 |
| Value Plus | $74.99 | ~45 bus. days | $2,500 |
| Value Max | $99.99 | ~35 bus. days | $5,000 |
| Regular | $79.99 | ~25 bus. days | No limit |
| Express | $149.99 | ~10 bus. days | No limit |
| Super Express | $299.99 | ~5 bus. days | No limit |
| Walk-Through | $499.99 | Same day | Shows only |
When grading makes sense
Run both scenarios in the calculator. Enter the card raw, then enter it graded with the applicable PSA cost and an estimated graded sale price. If the graded scenario net profit minus the raw scenario net profit exceeds the grading cost, grading adds value. If not, sell raw.
Shipping Costs for Card Sellers
The shipping preset fills your seller cost automatically. Common USPS rates as of 2026: actual costs vary by weight and zone.
| Method | Approx Cost | Best For |
| PWE (Plain White Envelope) | $0.73 | Raw commons, low-value cards |
| Bubble Mailer | ~$4.50 | Raw singles under $50 |
| Top Loader + Bubble Mailer | ~$5.50 | Most raw card sales |
| Small Box (USPS Ground) | ~$8.50 | Graded slabs, multiple cards |
| Priority Mail | ~$9.85 | Higher-value raw cards |
| Priority Flat Rate Medium | ~$16.10 | Lots and multi-card packages |
| + Signature Confirmation | +$3.65 | Add-on for cards $250+ (buyer protection) |
Why Break-Even Price Matters
Break-even is the minimum sale price where you avoid losing money after all costs. The gap between break-even and realistic market price is your actual margin. Thin margin means you are taking on risk without much buffer. A $2 price drop, a slightly worse grade, or one extra promoted listing fee can erase it.
The most common mistake: comparing break-even to the highest recent sale comp rather than the median. Use a realistic sale expectation, not an optimistic one.
FAQ
What is a good ROI for card flipping? +
There is no universal target, but once eBay fees, tax, grading, and shipping are factored in, you usually need more margin than you first think. A 25 to 50 percent ROI is solid. The more useful question is whether the dollar profit justifies the time and capital tied up in the flip.
Should I grade my card before selling? +
Run both scenarios. Enter the card raw, then enter it graded with the PSA cost and an estimated graded sale price. Compare net profits. The answer depends entirely on the specific card and the expected grade multiplier, not a general rule.
What are eBay fees for sports cards in 2026? +
Standard eBay sellers pay roughly 13.25 percent on trading card sales. eBay Store subscribers pay around 12.35 percent. Cards over $1,000 may qualify for a 50 percent discount on the final value fee, bringing the effective rate to about 6.6 percent. Promoted listing fees are separate and stack on top.
Why are shipping charged and shipping cost separate fields? +
What the buyer pays and what you actually spend on shipping are two different numbers. Keeping them separate gives you accurate net profit. The Net Shipping row in results shows whether your shipping pricing is profitable, at cost, or a loss.
How does the max buy price calculation work? +
Max buy price works backward from your target sale price. It subtracts marketplace fees, shipping costs, grading costs, supplies, and your desired profit from the expected net proceeds. The result is the highest purchase price where the deal still hits your profit target. Use it as your hard ceiling when bidding or negotiating.
Does the $1,000+ eBay promo actually apply? +
The eBay promo offers a 50 percent discount on the trading card final value fee for qualifying cards sold above $1,000. Toggle it on when evaluating high-end sales. The discount applies to the main FVF component only, not promoted listing fees. Check eBay's current promotions page to confirm eligibility before counting on it.
Can I use this for lots or multi-card deals? +
Yes. Enter your total purchase cost and total expected sale value. The calculator works on any numbers as long as they reflect the full deal. For bulk lots where you plan to break and sell individually, run each card separately for the most accurate picture.
